Karaka is the senior class at Waitoa School. It caters for Year 5 to Year 8 students. Mr Ashman teaches this class. One of the aims of the Karaka is to become independent learners -where students are responsible for their own learning. You're welcome to visit our class wiki! The website is www.waitoa-seniors.wikispaces.com.
Students are using our new computers for our upcoming Numeracy Evening with the Waitoa Community. They are creating small films of children solving numeracy problems and then creating powerpoints to present their information to parents as well as making posters! The focus for the year is inquiry learning, and we are teaching students to think more deeply as they problem solve.
Year 5 and 6 students spend a block each Friday learning about gardening -as well as being out in the gardens! They have learnt to prepare the soil, plant seeds and seedlings, as well as tend to their gardens using natural pesticides and weeding.
